Thermal Vacuum Space Simulation Tests

Thermal Vacuum Space Simulation Tests

Thermal vacuum testing is an important aspect of proficiency testing for a wide variety of spaceflight components, subassemblies and mission critical equipment. Thermal vacuum testing provides simulation of space and upper atmosphere conditions, including temperature and altitude.

Thermal Vacuum Space Simulation Tests

Testing components for space applications requires a unique set of capabilities. In addition to the already stringent standards used in the aerospace industry, aerospace qualification requires even more extreme temperatures, higher pressures and harsher environmental simulation.

To accommodate this, Element has recently invested in thermal vacuum chamber technology. Useful for both material and product testing, a thermal vacuum chamber can reach higher temperatures and pressures while maintaining a sterile, decontaminated environment.

Benefits of thermal vacuum testing

Thermal vacuum testing simulates a space environment by removing air and pressure and cycling very high and very low temperatures. By testing in an environment that simulates real-world conditions as closely as possible, exposure to thermal vacuum can save time and money by identifying design issues before components are integrated into larger systems.

In addition to testing subassemblies and mission critical equipment, thermal vacuum chambers are also sought after to evaluate seals and rings, High Pressure-High Temperature (HPHT) programs, vacuum cooking testing, and any project that requires a sterilized test environment.

EUROLAB Thermal Vacuum Testing Facilities provide thermal vacuum chamber testing operations for both manned and unmanned test environments. The facilities offer a wide range of performance capabilities that can be matched to the individual testing requirements of smaller test articles or large test article components and subsystems. Typical uses of these rooms include development of spacecraft components, subassemblies, and experiments, engineering evaluation and qualification testing, preflight thermal vacuum conditioning of flight hardware, development and calibration of instruments for use in large rooms or in flight, spacecraft seal and lock studies, photographic film emulsion studies, and optical surface contamination studies.
