This standard applies to the sampling of petroleum products, crude oils and intermediates stored in tanks at or near atmospheric pressure or transported by pipelines and processed as liquids at ambient temperatures up to 200 degrees Celsius.

This international standard refers to the sampling methods available and the type of equipment currently in use. However, it is not intended to exclude the use of new equipment that has not yet been developed for commercial use, provided that such equipment ensures that samples are obtained in accordance with the requirements and procedures of this standard.
