Elemental Analysis - Bromine (Br)

Bromine is a dark red colored poisonous liquid and a member of the halogen elements mineral. Bromine, a rare element, is found in nature only in the form of soluble and insoluble bromides in the earth's crust. Some enrichment occurs in ocean water, some hot springs, and the rare insoluble silver bromide minerals. Natural salt deposits and brines are the main sources of bromine and its compounds.

Elemental Analysis - Bromine (Br)

Free bromine is a reddish-brown liquid with a certain vapor pressure at room temperature. Bromine vapor is amber in color. Bromine has a pungent odor and is irritating to the skin, eyes and respiratory system. Exposure to concentrated bromine vapor, even for a short time, can be fatal.

Bromine dissolved in water, like chlorinated water, is a good oxidizing agent and is more useful because it does not decompose very easily. In sunlight, bromine water decomposes, releasing oxygen.

Industrial use of bromine was in the form of ethylene bromide compound, which was once added to gasoline to prevent lead build-up in the engine. Since the abandonment of leaded gasoline, bromine compounds have been used primarily in flame retardants. It is also an important compound used to destroy nematodes and other pests in the soil. Bromine is also used in the production of catalysts such as aluminum bromide.

In the tests and analyzes carried out in our institution, which has a wide range of technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and applies the most modern methods, national and international standards and legal regulations in force are complied with. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are also bromine (Br) testing services within the framework of elemental analysis.
