(PET) Polyethylene Terephthelate Analysis

PET is an abbreviation for polyethylene terephthalate, the chemical name for polyester. PET is a type of transparent, strong and lightweight plastic that is widely used for packaging food and beverages, especially appropriately sized soft drinks, juices and water. Almost all disposable carbonated soft drink and water bottles sold in the US are made from PET. In addition, PET is used in the packaging of salad dressings, peanut butter, cooking oils, mouthwash, shampoo, liquid hand soap, glass cleaner, and even tennis balls. Special grade PET is used for household food containers and ready-to-eat trays that can be heated in the oven or microwave.

The basic building blocks of PET are ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid, which are combined to form a polymer chain. The resulting PET strips are extruded, cooled rapidly and cut into small pellets. The resin pellets are then heated to a molten liquid that can be easily extruded or molded into pieces of practically any shape. More than half of the synthetic fiber in the world today is made from PET, which is called polyester when used for fiber or fabric applications.

PET has been approved as safe for contact with food and beverages by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other health safety agencies. The safety of PET for food, beverage, pharmaceutical and medical applications has been proven time and again through extensive studies, regulatory approvals and testing over 30 years. PET does not contain bisphenol-A (BPA) or phthalates (plasticizers).

PET's unique properties have quickly become the world's preferred packaging material for food and beverages. PET, like glass, is a very strong and inert material that does not react with food, is resistant to attack by microorganisms, and is non-biodegradable. But unlike glass, PET is extremely light, easy to transport and efficient, and unbreakable.

In addition, PET is fully recyclable and is the most recycled plastic worldwide. The triangle chasing arrows on PET bottles are identified by the number 1 in the code and no other plastics carry the number 1.

Our company also provides (PET) polyethylene terephthelate analysis services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
