EN 13697 Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics - Quantitative Non-Porous Surface Testing for Evaluation of Bactericidal and/or Fungicide Efficacy of Chemical Disinfectants Used in Food, Industrial, Domestic and Institutional Fields - Test Method and Requirements Without Mechanical Action (Phase 2, Step 2)

The EN 13697 standard, a European standard, describes the requirements for the bactericidal and/or fungicidal or yeasticidal activity of chemical disinfectants that form a homogeneous, physically stable preparation with water in hard water or (in the case of ready-to-use products) in food, and defines a test method. This test method excludes products used in industrial, domestic and institutional areas, areas and situations where disinfection is medically indicated, and living tissue.

This standard applies to at least:

  • Processing, distribution and retail sale of foods of animal origin (milk and dairy products, meat and meat products, fish and seafood, egg and egg products, animal feed and similar)
  • Processing, distribution and retail sale of food of plant origin (beverages, fruits, vegetables and their derivatives including sugar distiller, flour, milling and bakery, animal feed and the like)

In addition, this standard covers the following industrial areas:

  • Institutional areas: catering establishments, common areas, public transport, schools, nurseries, shops, sports rooms, waste containers (bins), hotels, residences, clinically non-sensitive areas of hospitals, offices and the like
  • Other industries: packaging material, biotechnology (yeast, proteins, enzymes), pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and toiletries, textiles, aerospace, computer industry and the like

Using the EN 13697 standard, it is possible to determine the bactericidal or fungicidal or yeasticidal activity of the undiluted product. Since three concentrations are tested in the active to inactive range, dilution of the product is necessary and therefore the product forms a homogeneous and stable preparation in hard water.

This test method cannot be used to evaluate the efficacy of products against mycobacteria.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, our organization, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, is a bactericidal and/or fungicidal chemical disinfectant used in food, industrial, domestic and institutional areas within the scope of EN 13697 standard. Quantitative non-porous surface test for evaluation of effectiveness services.
