California 93120 Formaldehyde Compliant or California Phase 2 Compliant

California 93120 Formaldehyde Compliant or California Phase 2 Compliant

Composite wood products are panels made from wood chips, chips, particles or fibers bonded together with a resin. The California Composite Wood Products Regulation focuses specifically on three products of composite wood products:

California 93120 Formaldehyde Compliant or California Phase 2 Compliant

  • hardwood plywood
  • particle board
  • Medium density fiberboard (MDF)

The regulation also applies to composite wood products used in finished products such as cabinets, doors, furniture, flooring products, moldings, toys, mirrors and photo frames, speakers, skirting boards, shelves and countertops.

This regulation requires final products to be made and labeled with hardwood plywood, particleboard and medium density fiberboard (MDF) that comply with legal requirements.

There is a label on the panels and on the finished products that says “California 93120 formaldehyde compliant” or “California phase 2 compliant”. This label, which appears on panels and finished products, indicates that the product meets stringent emissions standards for formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products, including hardwood plywood, particleboard, and medium density fiberboard (MDF). Manufacturers are required to use composite wood that meets the formaldehyde emission limits and label their products appropriately on the products or in the packaging of the finished products.

The California Composite Wood Products Ordinance is one of the strictest regulations in place to limit formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products. Meanwhile, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a national regulation based on the California regulation that applies nationwide.

Formaldehyde is a colorless gas and is released into the environment from a variety of sources, including the combustion of fossil fuels such as gasoline and propane, tobacco smoke, fireplaces and wood stoves. It is also found at low levels in natural wood. It is widely used in a variety of products, including resins used as adhesives in composite wood products. It is also found in many products, including some furniture upholstery, wallpaper, carpet products, and some personal care products.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for California 93120 formaldehyde compliant or California phase 2 compliant labeling with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
