EN 13624 Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics - Quantitative Suspension Testing for Evaluation of Fungicide or Yeasticidal Activity in the Medical Field - Test Method and Requirements (Base 2, Step 1)

In the EN 13624 standard, a European standard, the requirements for the fungicidal or yeasticidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptic products that form a homogeneous, physically stable preparation when diluted with hard water, and a test method are defined. Products can only be tested at 80 percent concentration or less because some dilution is always produced by adding test organisms and interfering substances.

EN 13624 Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics - Quantitative Suspension Testing for Evaluation of Fungicide or Yeasticidal Activity in the Medical Field - Test Method and Requirements (Base 2, Step 1)

This standard covers products used in the field of hygienic handwashing, hygienic handwashing, surgical handwashing, surgical handwashing, instrument disinfection by dipping, and surface disinfection by wiping, spraying, flooding or other means.

This test method is applicable to areas and situations where disinfection is medically indicated. The most common environments are:

  • Hospitals, community health facilities and dental practices
  • Clinics of schools, kindergartens and nursing homes
  • workplaces and homes

This test method also covers service areas such as laundry and kitchen that provide products directly to patients.

The test method defined in the EN 13624 standard is intended to determine the effectiveness of commercial formulations or active substances under the conditions in which they are used.

When performing the test, a sample of the product diluted with water for hard water or ready-to-use products is added to the test suspension of fungi (yeast cells or mold spores) in a solution of parasites. The mixture is kept at the temperature and contact time specified in the standard. At the end of this contact period, some of it is removed. The fungicidal or fungistatic effect in this part is immediately neutralized by an approved method. The preferred method is dilution-neutralization. The number of living fungi in each sample is determined and the reduction calculated.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides quantitative suspension testing services for the evaluation of fungicidal or yeasticidal activity in the medical field within the scope of EN 13624 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
