Petrochemicals are widely used in cosmetic products for different reasons. For example, it moisturizes the skin, helps products glide more smoothly, extends the shelf life of lotions and elixirs, and distributes fragrance evenly throughout the product. These components are widely used in the cosmetics industry due to their occlusive properties. Many traditional cosmetic products create a barrier on the skin to help keep it moisturized for longer. However, this barrier allows components like dirt and oil hidden in the cosmetics to adhere to the skin, clogging pores and leading to acne and blackheads. It also interferes with the skin's natural sweating process, hindering the feeling of detoxification. Some petrochemicals may even be contaminated with carcinogenic impurities.
