EN 250 Breathing Equipment - Open Circuit Self-Contained Compressed Air Diving Apparatus - Requirements, Testing and Marking

In the EN 250 standard, which is a European standard, minimum requirements for independent open circuit compressed air underwater breathing apparatus and its sub-assemblies are explained and a test method is defined in order to ensure minimum safe operation of the device up to a maximum depth of 50 meters.

EN 250 Breathing Equipment - Open Circuit Self-Contained Compressed Air Diving Apparatus - Requirements, Testing and Marking

For the purposes of this standard, the term self-contained, open-circuit compressed air underwater breathing apparatus refers to a SCUBA device carried by the diver with a portable source of compressed air that allows him to breathe underwater and exhale into ambient water. The self-contained, open circuit compressed air underwater breathing apparatus, when ready for use, consists of a set of compatible sub-assemblies, each complying with the appropriate requirements of this standard. When interconnected, the self-contained, open-circuit compressed air underwater breathing apparatus is designed to allow the user to breathe air on demand from a high-pressure cylinder via a demand regulator connected to a facepiece.

A self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA) is a type of portable underwater breathing apparatus used by industrial, amateur and military divers. It supplies a regulator and ambient pressure breathable air from one or two cylinders containing compressed air to the diver's mouth.

The SCUBA is the most common and popular type of underwater breathing apparatus. Its main parts are: one or a pair of high-pressure (300 bar) air tanks made of steel, aluminum or carbon fiber composite, a pressure regulator, a nozzle and connecting pipes, and a carrying frame, pack or harness.

One of three different types of SCUBAs, the open-circuit SCUBA supplies compressed breathable air from tanks via regulators and a mouthpiece. The air inhaled from the diver's mouth is given directly to the water. The other two types of SCUBAs are the closed-loop SCUBA and the semi-closed-circuit mixed gas SCUBA.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, our organization, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, within the scope of EN 250 standard, open circuit independent compressed air diving. It also provides apparatus testing services.
