Metric shim washers, defined in the DIN 988 standard published by the German Institute for Standardization (DIN), are round washers available in multiple diameters and thicknesses to fit precision shafts to protect the inner face of a bearing. It is available in thicknesses starting from 0,1 mm and any thickness can be made by combining several washers. Shim rings are manufactured to extremely tight thickness tolerances so they can be used to create an exact size. These washers are manufactured in stainless steel and in diameters ranging from M4 to M50.
Metric precision shim rings are hardened steel round washers used in a wide variety of applications to limit excess space and eliminate axial movement created by manufacturing tolerances. Precision shim rings made of hardened steel are also available in other materials on request.
The requirements in the DIN 988 standard are under the following headings:
Metric shim rings are typically used to support, adjust for a better fit, or provide a flat surface. When the litter is cut, small gaps between objects subject to wear used to fill.
Shim rings (setting rings), sometimes called tolerance rings, are used in molded or worn housings to keep bearings tight.
Retaining rings or lock washers, as well as frequently used adjusting rings, take up the space between machine components, preventing axial movement. To ensure they retain their shape under extreme forces, the contact surfaces of the shim and component must be smooth and of similar hardness to prevent excessive wear. These rings act as a buffer to prevent damage to machined components. It is widely used in gearboxes and gear systems. In short, shim rings and support rings are used in a wide variety of applications to take up extra space.
Our organization also provides testing services for shim rings within the scope of DIN 986 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
