ANSI/IES LM-80-20 Approved Method: Measuring Luminous Flux and Color Maintenance of LED Packages, Arrays, and Modules

ANSI/IES LM-80-20 Approved Method: Measuring Luminous Flux and Color Maintenance of LED Packages, Arrays, and Modules

In the ANSI/IES LM-80-20 standard developed jointly by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Lighting Engineering Society (IES), luminous (or radian or photon) flux maintenance and chromaticity maintenance of LEDs when operated under controlled environmental and operational conditions or Test methods for wavelength changes are described. The measurements obtained are used to compare LEDs and are used in models that reflect long-term changes in light output over the life of the LEDs.

LEDs typically exhibit very long operating life characteristics and can be in use for 50 hours or more depending on drive current and usage conditions. The light output from LEDs gradually decreases over time. This reduction in output without sudden and permanent failure is near the end of the life of an LED-based lighting product, but there is a risk that the product will perform outside of specifications or outside of required codes, standard practices or regulations. LEDs may also undergo gradual shifts in the emitted spectrum over time which can result in unacceptable appearance or color rendering or low efficacy.

Briefly, this standard provides test methods for users to measure the brightness of LED lights to help confront a problem. Specifically, these methods are used to measure luminous flux and color maintenance for LED packages, arrays and modules. This standard covers luminous, radian or photon flux maintenance and color maintenance, including changes in chromaticity coordinates, peak wavelength, or center wavelength against time.

White light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been a mainstay of the solid-state lighting industry in recent years. Despite this, colored LEDs are gaining importance in some areas of general lighting. Today, colored LEDs are used in a wide variety of products, from garden lighting to adjustable color luminaires.

Our organization, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, within the scope of ANSI/IES LM-80-20 standard, the luminous flux and color of LED packages, arrays and modules. It also provides maintenance measurement services.
