EN 14078 Liquid Petroleum Products - Determination of Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) Content in Medium Distillates - Infrared Spectrometry Method

A European standard, EN 14078, defines a test method applied to the fatty acid methyl ester content of the following measuring ranges for the determination of the fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) content in diesel fuel or domestic heating fuel by infrared spectrometry:

EN 14078 Liquid Petroleum Products - Determination of Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) Content in Medium Distillates - Infrared Spectrometry Method

  • A range: approximately 0,05 to 3 percent by volume
  • B range: approximately 3 percent to 20 percent by volume
  • C range: approximately 20 to 50 percent by volume

In principle, higher fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) contents can also be analyzed when diluted, but no precision data are currently available for results outside the specified range.

This test method has been verified to be applicable to samples containing fatty acid methyl esters conforming to EN 14214 or EN 14213 standards. Reliable quantitative results are obtained only if the samples do not contain significant amounts of other interfering components, such as esters and other carbonyl compounds, which have absorption bands in the spectral region used for the quantification of the fatty acid methyl ester. If such interfering components are present, this test method is expected to produce higher values.

The use of this standard includes hazardous materials, processes and equipment. In this respect, this standard does not purport to address all security problems for use. Therefore, to protect the safety and health of employees before the implementation of the standard. It is the responsibility of employees using this standard to take appropriate measures to avoid crying and to meet legal and regulatory requirements for this purpose.

Infrared spectroscopy device is a spectroscopy device that deals with the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, that is, light with a longer wavelength and lower frequency than visible light, and is used to identify and study chemicals, as in all spectroscopic techniques.

Our organization, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, Within the scope of EN 14078 standard, it also provides testing services for the determination of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) content in liquid petroleum products medium distillates (infrared spectrometry method).
