IEC 60598-2-3 Luminaires - Part 2-3: Special Requirements - Luminaires for Road and Street Lighting

The IEC 60598-2-3 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) describes the requirements for road and street lighting fixtures for use with tungsten filament, tubular fluorescent and other discharge lamps with supply voltages not exceeding 1000 Volts.

IEC 60598-2-3 Luminaires - Part 2-3: Special Requirements - Luminaires for Road and Street Lighting

This standard contains requirements for the following types of lighting:

  • Luminaires for road, street lighting and other general outdoor lighting applications
  • Luminaires used in tunnel lighting
  • Column-integrated luminaires with a minimum overall height of 2,5 m above normal ground level

These luminaires are for use with electric lighting sources with supply voltages not exceeding 1000 Volts. Only luminaires integrated into the column with a total height of less than 2,5 m are within the scope of this standard.

For the purposes of this standard,

  • The spanning wire refers to the wire between the main supports that bears the weight of the complete installation. This may include several fixtures, supply wires and a fixed wire.
  • Tense wire, hanging fixturesIt refers to the wire stretched between the main supports to limit the lateral and rotary movement of the spigot.
  • Column-integrated luminaires refer to lighting systems created with a luminaire integrated into a floor-fixed lighting column.
  • The reflective or decorative exterior of a column-integrated luminaire refers to outdoor-mounted equipment that reflects light in a fixed direction or for decorative purposes.
  • Lighting column refers to a support designed to hold one or more luminaires consisting of one or more parts, possibly an extension piece and, if necessary, a bracket.
  • The nominal height of a clone-integrated luminaire is the distance between the centerline of the entry point of the outer part and the intended floor level for column-integrated luminaires planted in the floor, or the bottom of the flange plate for column-integrated luminaires with a flange plate.
  • Tunnel luminaires refer to luminaires for lighting tunnels mounted directly on the wall or ceiling of the tunnel or on frames.
