IEC 61347-1 Lamp Controller - Part 1: General and Safety Requirements

IEC 61347-1 Lamp Controller - Part 1: General and Safety Requirements

The IEC 61347-1 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) describes the general and safety requirements for lamp control equipment used in direct current supplies up to 250 Volts and/or alternating current supplies up to 50 Volts at 60 Hz or 1000 Hz. .

IEC 61347-1 Lamp Controller - Part 1: General and Safety Requirements

Significant technical changes have been made in the last update of this standard. Namely,

  • Additional marking requirements have been added.
  • Added the following requirements for stray distances and clearances:
    • Operating voltages with operating frequencies up to 30 kHz
    • Operating voltages with operating frequencies higher than 30 kHz
    • Ignition for impulse and resonant voltages
    • Basic, supplementary and reinforced insulation
    • Inter-circuit isolation
    • Coated or potted control assembly
  • The definitions of extra-low voltage and functional extra-low voltage have been changed.
  • The schematic drawing has been modified, showing the different control hardware classification and insulation requirements.
  • The scope has been expanded.
  • A test method has been added to determine whether a conductive part is a live part that can cause an electric shock.
  • A new appendix has been added describing the leakage distances and clearances for the control gear where a higher degree of availability (shockproof category III) may be desired.
  • Added calculation example above.
  • For lamp control gear protected against pollution by the use of plating or pottery, a new appendix has been introduced describing the distance through leakage distances and gaps and insulation.
  • The concept of stray distances and clearances has been added.

The tests covered in this standard are type tests. The requirements for testing each lamp control assembly during manufacture are not included. Requirements for semi-luminaries are given in standard IEC 60598-1.

Lamp control gear conforming to this standard is not expected to endanger safety between 60598-1 percent of the rated supply voltage in stand-alone use and when operated in luminaires conforming to IEC 90-110 safety standard.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides test services for lamp control gear, general and safety requirements, within the scope of IEC 61347-1 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
