IEC 62031 LED Modules for General Lighting - Safety Features

IEC 62031 LED Modules for General Lighting - Safety Features

The IEC 62031 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) describes the general and safety requirements for light-emitting diode (LED) modules. of this standard LED modules included in the scope are:

IEC 62031 LED Modules for General Lighting - Safety Features

  • Non-integrated LED modules and semi-integrated LED modules to operate under constant voltage, constant current or constant power.
  • Integrated LED modules for use on DC supplies up to 250 Volts or AC supplies up to 50 Volts at 60 Hz or 1000 Hz.

Significant technical changes have been made in the last update of this standard. Namely,

  • The expressions in the scope and some other articles have been clarified.
  • Normative references have been updated.
  • The definitions of replaceable LED module, non-replaceable LED module and non-user-changeable LED module have been introduced, other definitions within the scope of the IEC 62504 standard have been removed.
  • The marker item has been restructured and a table added to provide an informative overview.
  • The marking requirements for onboard LED modules have been changed.
  • The marking input with the operating voltage has been revised.
  • Provisions regarding terminals and heat management have been revised.
  • Appendix B has been deleted.
  • Information on operating voltage and water contact is presented for the luminaire design.
  • An abnormal temperature test has been introduced.

LED modules under the IEC 62031 standard can be integrated, built-in or stand-alone. This standard does not apply to LED lamps. The performance requirements for LED modules are specified in the IEC 62717 standard (IEC 62717 Amendment 2 - LED modules for general lighting - Performance requirements).

For the purposes of this standard,

  • Replaceable LED module refers to the LED module designed to be replaced by an ordinary person or a qualified person.
  • Non-replaceable LED module refers to the LED module designed to be a non-replaceable part of the luminaire.
  • Non-user replaceable LED module refers to an LED module designed to be replaced only by the manufacturer, service representative or similar qualified person.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for the safety features of LED modules for general lighting, within the scope of the IEC 62031 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
