IEC 62722-1 Luminaire Performance - Part 1: General Requirements

IEC 62722-1 Luminaire Performance - Part 1: General Requirements

The IEC 62722-1 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) describes specific performance and environmental requirements for luminaires containing electric light sources for operation from supply voltages up to 1000 Volts. Unless otherwise stated, the performance data within the scope of this standard are for luminaires in a condition representative of new production and any specified initial aging procedures have been completed.

IEC 62722-1 Luminaire Performance - Part 1: General Requirements

The IEC 62722-1 standard covers requirements for luminaires to support energy-efficient use and responsible environmental management until the end of their useful life. The purpose of this standard is to provide a set of requirements that are considered generally applicable to most types of luminaires. Where additional performance requirements are relevant for certain types of light sources, they are specified in the IEC 62722-2 series of standards. This set of standards may also encompass broader performance specifications appropriate to the particular light source technology.

The nature of these performance standards will further expand the scope of the IEC 62722 standard if the standardization of performance criteria associated with specific luminaire applications is required, for example floodlighting, street lighting and the like. The requirements of the IEC 62722-1 standard are met with the information and data provided by the luminaire manufacturer. Compliance is deemed to have been achieved by providing the requested information. Any verification of the data is done according to the measurement requirements of this standard.

Semi luminaires are not covered by this standard. It may not be appropriate to provide performance data within the scope of this standard for some types of luminaires, for example decorative and domestic.

For the purposes of this standard,

  • Luminaire efficiency refers to the ratio of the total luminous flux of the luminaires to the input power at the rated supply voltage, excluding any emergency lighting charging power.
  • The light output ratio expresses the ratio of the total luminous flux measured under the practical conditions specified by the luminaire's own light sources and equipment to the sum of the individual luminous fluxes of the same light sources when operated with the same equipment and under the specified conditions except the luminaire.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for luminaire performance and general requirements, within the scope of IEC 62722-1 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
