The TSE K 204 standard published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) describes the structure, dimensions and test requirements of extruded solid insulated power cables from 20,3 kV to 35 kV for fixed facilities such as distribution networks or industrial facilities.

Extruded cables are lighter and much easier to handle and install. These cables provide the advantage of working at high temperatures (90 degrees) and high electrical voltages. In most cases, an impermeable metallic sheath, eg lead sheath, is applied over each core to prevent direct contact with water. Cable compounds are formulated to provide excellent performance in terms of both electrical reliability and aging. This eliminates the need for an impermeable metallic sheath.

Extrusion is a process used to create objects with a fixed section profile. A material is pushed through a die of the desired cross section. The extrusion process can be done with the material either hot or cold. At a later stage, molten plastic is applied all around the wire, forcing it to adhere to the structure of the wire or cable. The extrusion method is most commonly used to form the wire insulation and outer sheath of the cable.

Wire and cable extrusion is the process of transforming plastic raw materials into a continuous profile to protect against external damage and physical wear. There are different processes depending on the different compounds requested. The most commonly used process is for thermoplastic and thermoset materials, where an internal machine friction and external heat resistors are used, forcing the material through a mold to form a finished or semi-finished product. Another process is available for rubber extrusion with many different vulcanization solutions designed to heat the insulation after the die chute.
