DIN 18035 Sports Fields

DIN 18035 Sports Fields

The DIN 18035 standard, published by the German Standardization Institute (DIN), consists of the following subsections under the main title of "Sports fields":

DIN 18035 Sports Fields

  • DIN 18035-1 Part 1: Outdoor playgrounds and athletic fields - Planning and dimensions
  • DIN 18035-2 Part 2: Irrigation
  • DIN 18035-3 Part 3: Drainage
  • DIN 18035-4 Part 4: Sports turf fields
  • DIN 18035-5 Part 5: Trapped areas
  • DIN 18035-6 Part 6: Synthetic surfaces
  • DIN 18035-7 Part 7: Synthetic turf fields

The DIN 18035-1 standard is valid for outdoor facilities built for sports purposes, where the types of sports listed in the standard can be applied and also for multi-purpose use. This standard defines the planning principles and dimensions of outdoor playgrounds and athletic fields.

The DIN 18035-2 standard is applicable to golf courses using sprinkler systems as well as irrigation of lawns according to the DIN 18035-4 standard, terracing according to the DIN 18035-5 standard and artificial turf systems according to the DIN 18035-7 standard. The purpose of the sprinkler is to maintain the playability of the sports fields. While measuring the amount of water, different effects such as the type of sports field, natural precipitation, sun, shade, wind and usage are also taken into account regionally. In particular, irrigation is done with higher amounts of water at longer intervals to prevent rooting.

In the DIN 18035-3 standard, subsoil features that carry the loads of the upper layers and which are especially aimed to ensure the smoothness of these layers are defined. Drainage design is made according to DIN EN 12056-1, DIN EN 12056-2 and DIN 1986-100 standards, taking into account the design rain. The basis of the hydraulic design of the surface water to be generated and discharged is a design rain. Test shafts are placed along the drain collectors at intervals of not more than 110 m and in the case of closed pipelines, as well as at every change in slope and direction.

DIN 18035-4 standard is valid for outdoor sports fields covered with grass. Does not apply to golf and equestrian sports facilities or lawn tennis courts. Whether or not the requirements of this standard are applicable under special circumstances, for example areas with special use, areas with underfloor heating, reinforcement systems, areas covered completely or partially, permanently or temporarily, will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Lawns change due to atmospheric and biological influences and use and maintenance. The requirements of this standard are valid for the conformity and control tests and the acceptance time of the turf. Table 1 applies to subsoil and subsoil, Table 2 applies to drainage layer. Open-pored building materials increase water storage capacity. The drainage layer should not contain or be capable of developing plant-damaging components and should not damage groundwater.

The DIN 18035-5 standard applies to terracing for large pitches, small pitches, athletic facilities and tennis courts. The requirements for the individual layers of the ground surface depend on the intended sporting uses and the structure. Table 1 applies to subfloor and subfloor. If the subfloor does not meet the requirements in the table, soil-mechanical investigations should be performed to determine what action to take.

The DIN 18035-6 standard applies to plastic surfaces in outdoor sports facilities and includes additional requirements described in the DIN EN 14877 standard. The synthetic surface should allow use in various sports, mainly athletics, ball games, general exercise, and the training of the basics of sports motor skills. Table 1 applies to the subfloor, Table 2 applies to the manufacture of the unbonded sub-base layer and the installed substrate, Table 3 applies to the building material mix.

The DIN 18035-7 standard provides additional features for outdoor artificial turf systems with infilled or unfilled pile layers that do not conflict with the DIN EN 15330-1 standard. Describes the requirements for separate layers under the synthetic turf surface. The general system requirements specified in the DIN EN 15330-1 standard are met (sustainability, safety in use). Table 2 applies to the subfloor, Table 3 applies to the building material mix for the built-in substrate, Table 4 to produce the substrate of the base layer without binder.

Our organization also provides sports field testing services within the scope of DIN 18035 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
