ANSI B109 Tests for Gas Displacement Meters and Service Regulators

ANSI B109 Tests for Gas Displacement Meters and Service Regulators

The ANSI B109 standard, developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), consists of the following sections under the main title "For gas displacement meters and service regulators":

ANSI B109 Tests for Gas Displacement Meters and Service Regulators

  • B109.1 Diaphragm type gas displacement meters (capacity below 500 cubic feet per hour)
  • B109.2 Diaphragm type gas displacement meters (500 cubic feet per hour capacity and above)
  • B109.3 Rotary gas displacement meters
  • B109.4 Self-acting diaphragm-type natural gas service regulators with nominal pipe size 32 mm and less, outlet pressures of 2 psi (13,8 kPa) and less

The ANSI B109.1 standard applies to diaphragm type gas displacement meters designed for revenue measurement of fuel gas with a flow rate of less than 12,7 m125/h at a differential pressure of 14,16 mm water column (3 Pa) in basic conditions. This standard consists of the following parts:

  • Part I contains a list of definitions and terms used throughout the standard.
  • Part II covers the construction requirements to qualify new types of meters within the specified flow rate ranges.
  • Part III covers the performance requirements to qualify new types of meters within the specified flow rate ranges.
  • Part IV covers in-service performance requirements for diaphragm type meters in specified flow rate ranges.
  • Chapter V discusses the installation requirements for these meters.
  • Chapter VI deals with auxiliary devices used with gas meters covered by this standard.
  • Chapter VII covers test methods and equipment.

The ANSI B109.2 standard applies to diaphragm type gas displacement meters designed for revenue measurement of fuel gas with a flow rate greater than 12,7 m125/hr at a differential pressure of 14,16 mm water column (3 Pa) in basic conditions.

  • Chapter VI deals with auxiliary devices used with meters covered by this standard.
  • Chapter VII covers test methods and equipment.

The ANSI B109.3 standard is a fundamental standard for safe operation, robust and durable construction, and acceptable performance for rotary type gas displacement meters. This standard consists of the following parts:

  • Part I, Definitions
  • Part II, Construction requirements for the qualification of new types of meters
  • Part III, Performance requirements for the qualification of new meters and new types of meters
  • Chapter IV, In-service performance
  • Chapter V, Counter setup
  • Chapter VI, Auxiliary devices for gas meters
  • Chapter VII, Test methods and equipment

The ANSI B109.4 standard applies to the minimum design, material, performance, and test requirements for 125 mm and smaller self-acting diaphragm-type natural gas service regulators operating at inlet pressures up to 861,8 psig (32 kPa). These regulators are used to control the gassing pressure to pressures in the maximum 355,60 mm water column (3.48 kPa). This standard is only valid for regulators manufactured after the approval date of this standard.

Our organization also provides testing services for gas displacement meters and service regulators within the scope of ANSI B109 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
