Carcinogenicity Tests

Carcinogenicity Tests

Carcinogenicity or carcinogenicity refers to any substance that causes cancer. Toxicity refers to the state of being toxic or poisonous. Today, many studies are carried out on the toxic and carcinogenic effects of various chemicals in animals and humans. Some animal test results divide chemicals evaluated for long-term toxicity and carcinogenicity into three groups:

Carcinogenicity Tests

  • Causes organ toxicity without cancer
  • Site-specific cancer-causing agents with no associated toxicity
  • Those that cause toxicity and cancer in the same organ

However, data from tests do not support a correlation between chemically induced toxicity and carcinogenicity in the vast majority of events. In addition, to evaluate the risk assessment process, findings regarding toxicity are fraught with uncertainty.

Chemical carcinogens are compounds that cause cancer in humans and experimental animals. This property is attributed to many chemicals that are discussed in public, resulting in a widespread perception of danger and threat.

Where a chemical compound is clearly directly genotoxic, a threshold dose is not assumed. In this case though, high doses of the compound are generally associated with a higher risk of cancer, while lower doses are associated with a lower one. Mathematically, if the margin of safety between the lowest carcinogenic dose in animals and the relevant exposure level in humans exceeds 10, the degree of concern is classified as low. It is controversial to describe events where the compound is genotoxic in only one test but not the others, or where it is only in vitro but not in vivo.

There are three types of chemicals known as cancer-causing carcinogens:

  • Procarcinogens that are changed during metabolism and cause cancer
  • Cocarcinogens, those that cause cancer by acting with another chemical
  • Direct-acting carcinogens that cause cancer as is

A carcinogen can cause cancer if it irreparably damages a person's DNA cells. But cancer can also be caused by inherited genetic mutations. It can also take a long time for cancer to be detected. Considering these factors, it is very difficult to determine the true cause of cancer.

Our organization also provides carcinogenicity testing services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
