Writing PSA A10 0156 Test or Measurement Reports

The “PSA A10 0156 Test or Measurement Report Writing” standard, developed by the French car manufacturer PSA Group, now part of Stellantis, describes the structure and mandatory components of any measurement (RM) or test (RE) report. This standard also applies to verification reports (CV) and calibration certificates (CE).

Writing PSA A10 0156 Test or Measurement Reports

This standard is based on the requirements of the “ISO/IEC 17025 Test and calibration laboratories” standard and introduces some supplementary requirements regarding the data that must be recorded.

The PSA A10 0156 standard applies internally to the entire PSA PEUGEOT CITROEN group and its supplier partners for measurement or testing services.

This standard applies to all measurement and testing processes (including calibration or verification processes) implemented by a supplier partner working within or on behalf of the group.

Interim measurement results can be generated and communicated in a simplified manner without being the subject of a report in the format required here. In this case, the provisional nature of these results should be clearly stated, and they should never be used to make a decision.

This standard replaces the Q739100 standard, which is an older PSA internal standard relating to test or measurement report writing.

The following terms are defined within the scope of the PSA A10 0156 standard:

  • Test Report (RE): A document created after verification and validation tests are performed on a system, according to an integration and validation plan. This document is equivalent to a validation data sheet or test data sheet.
  • Measurement Report (RM): A document generated after a measurement service, inquiry service, or dimensional/non-dimensional expertise service that embodies all quantitative values assigned to a measurable value.
  • Verification Report (CV): A document created after the verification service, intended to assess compliance/non-compliance according to specified criteria.
  • Calibration certificate (CE): A document created after calibration service, aiming to establish a relationship between quantitative values and indicators provided by measurement standards.
  • Test procedure: In this standard, the following are referred to as test procedures:
    • Test procedures (those applicable to parts or assemblies)
    • Test methods (those applicable to substances or materials)

Within PSA, test procedures and test methods must comply with internal standards A10 0153 and A10 0170, respectively.

  • Test equipment: In this standard, the following are referred to as test equipment:
    • Test benches
    • Portable measuring equipment, also known as off-bench measuring equipment.
  • Integration and verification plan: A document specifying the following:
    • Planned actions and tasks for verification and validation activities.
    • Expected verification results
    • Projected technical and human resources
    • Engineering refers to the verification conditions and procedures required for the integration of system components and verification according to system characteristics. It also refers to integration procedures and control/validation procedures.

In short, the PSA A10 0156 standard defines the mandatory structure, content, and rules for writing test reports, measurement reports, verification reports, and calibration certificates across PSA and its suppliers. It also ensures consistency, traceability, and compliance with quality requirements.

This standard specifies how to prepare clear, complete, and standardized reports for any measurement, testing, verification, or calibration activity. This standard applies to PSA's internal laboratories and external suppliers when working on PSA projects.

Reports typically include an initial/cover page and a body containing minimum required information. Each page should include the following:

  • Unique document reference (example, report number)
  • Page numbering (current / total)
  • Privacy level (internal, restricted, confidential, etc.)
  • Heading indicating the type of report.

The following elements must be included on the first page:

  • Identity of the organizing company or organization
  • Report title (e.g., test report, measurement report, calibration certificate)
  • The document title should include the project code, phase, component/function, and subject.
  • Reference to the original request or test order.
  • Requestor's name, department, distribution list (recipients and copies)
  • The purpose/objective of the test or measurement (including context from previous activities, if relevant)
  • Overall conclusion (compatibility/incompatibility, opinions, comments, suggestions)
  • Author, approver names, signatures (or electronic verification), and dates (approval date = publication date)
  • Privacy statement

Content requirements:

  • Subject/object description: Detailed description (part number, drawing/CAD reference, make, silhouette, vehicle identification number, engine code, etc.), sampling/preparation rules and conditions.
  • Equipment used: Name, reference/identity for full traceability.
  • Test or measurement procedure: Reference to the complete test method or procedure (including version), deviations/variances, test dates and location, personnel involved, environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity), software used (name and version).
  • Results and analysis: Raw or recorded data references, numerical results in correct units, measurement uncertainty (including probability of coverage), graphical representations where useful, statistical analysis, goodness-of-fit assessment rules (whether uncertainty was considered), and any opinions or comments.
  • Additional elements: Photographs, diagrams, or appendices as needed.

Reports should use consistent units, appropriate data formatting, and clear language. Ideally, reproduction should only be authorized as a complete fax.

Standard appendices:

  • Appendix 1: Sample template for general test/measurement report.
  • Appendix 2: Sample model for calibration certificate.
  • Appendix 3: Example of a dimensional measurement report with dedicated fields for metrology, uncertainty, methodology, and similar criteria.

Additional instructions:

  • The reports should support decision-making processes in development, verification, or production (linked to the integration and verification plan).
  • Suppliers must comply with the requirements of this or equivalent ISO 17025 standard when PSA requests testing.
  • Archiving and document management guidelines apply (with reference to other PSA norms).

This standard is frequently used as a reference in other PSA material testing norms (e.g., paint, plastics, flammability, adhesion) to ensure uniform reporting of results.

For many years, our organization, with its competent and experienced staff, has been understanding the needs of its clients, providing the advanced testing services they require, and assisting in the establishment, implementation, and improvement of management systems. In this context, the reports prepared regarding the testing services provided to the PSA Group comply with the PSA A10 0156 standard.
