ISO 19967-1 Heat Pump Water Heaters - Testing and Rating for Performance - Part 1: Heat Pump Water Heaters for Hot Water Supply

The standard "ISO 19967-1 Heat pump water heaters - Testing and rating for performance - Part 1: Heat pump water heaters for hot water supply" published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) describes the test conditions and test procedures to determine the performance characteristics of air source heat pump water heaters for hot water supply with electrically driven compressors, with or without additional electric heaters and connected only to a hot water storage tank or incorporating a single hot water storage tank.

ISO 19967-1 Heat Pump Water Heaters - Testing and Rating for Performance - Part 1: Heat Pump Water Heaters for Hot Water Supply

Hot water storage tanks connected in series or parallel and acting hydraulically as a single tank are considered to be a single hot water storage tank. In the case of heat pump water heaters consisting of several components with chiller or water connections, this standard applies only to those designed and supplied as a complete package. However, this standard does not apply to simultaneous operation test procedures for hot water supply and space heating. Simultaneous means that hot water supply and space heating production occur simultaneously and may interact.

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:

  • Heat pump water heater for hot water supply refers to air source heat pump water heater with electrically driven compressors with or without additional electric heater and hot water supply for human use connected to or incorporating a hot water storage tank.
  • Storage volume is the measured volume of hot water that can be held in the storage tank.
  • Unheated space air is the heat source for a heat pump, which absorbs heat by an air heat exchanger that is in direct contact with the air inside a space in an unheated building.
  • The coefficient of performance for hot water supply is the coefficient of performance determined using reference load profiles and includes the heat losses of the storage tank.
  • The low intensity product is a heat pump water heater that is energized for a maximum of eight consecutive hours between 24:22 and 00:07 of a 00-hour tapping pattern.
  • The useful water flow rate is the minimum flow rate for drawing the load profile.

The test apparatus shall be designed so that all requirements for setting values, stability criteria and measurement uncertainties in accordance with this standard can be met. Water systems or other heat transfer fluid systems shall be sufficiently degassed to ensure that the measured results are not significantly affected.

The inlet and outlet temperatures of the hot water supply are measured at the centre of the flow and as close as possible to the appliance. The response time and sampling interval of the temperature sensor should be selected to maintain the uncertainties in the table given in the standard. Ducted air systems should be sufficiently airtight to ensure that the measured results are not significantly affected by air exchange with the surroundings.

For inverter type controllers, frequency adjustment must be made for each rating condition. The manufacturer must provide instructions in the documentation for obtaining the data required to set the required frequencies. If skilled personnel with knowledge of the control software are required for system start-up, the manufacturer or designated representative must be present when the system is installed and prepared for testing. Measurement uncertainties must not exceed the values specified in the table.

The size of the test room for the outdoor heat exchanger of air source heat pump water heaters should be selected so that there is no resistance to air flow at the air inlet and air outlet holes of the test object. The air flow in the room cannot initiate any short circuit between the two holes, and therefore the air flow velocity at these two locations when the test object is closed should not exceed 1,5 m/s.

Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, the air inlet and air outlet openings must be at least 1 m away from the surfaces of the test chamber. This also applies to all measurement channels. Direct heat radiation (e.g. solar radiation) must be prevented from reaching the heating units, heat pump water heaters or temperature measuring points in the test chamber.

The heat pump water heater must be installed and connected for testing as recommended in the manufacturer's installation and operating instructions. Optional accessories (e.g. heating element) are not included in the test.

Our organization has a strong staff that closely follows the developments in science and technology in the world and constantly improves itself. Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies provided for businesses in various sectors, there are also test services in accordance with the “ISO 19967-1 Heat pump water heaters - Testing and rating for performance - Part 1: Heat pump water heater for hot water supply” standard.
