SAR Test
The SAR test, or Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) test, is a measure of the amount of radiofrequency (RF) dosimetry of the magnitude and distribution of absorbed electromagnetic energy within biological objects exposed to RF fields.

These levels are expressed in watts per kilogram (W / kg). International regulatory agencies require SAR assessments for most portable and mobile wireless technologies.
Parameters that can affect SAR include:
- Radio service types (cellular, PCS, LMR, WLAN, etc.)
- Modulation types (CDMA, GMSK, TDMA, AMPS, etc.)
- Physical orientation to the person (held to the ear, held to the face, belt clip, hug held, etc.)
- RF power level (in Watts or mW)
- Changes to transmitter, antenna (removed / retracted) or accessories (clips, batteries, etc.)
The FCC classifies a wide variety of portable transmitters operating independently as potential candidates for SAR testing. For example, laptops may require SAR testing. SAR testing may be required on handsets, pagers, and other strap-mounted devices. SAR testing may be required when portable transmitter antennas and radiating structures are less than 20 cm from people except extremities (hands, wrists, feet and ankles) and depending on the frequency and threshold levels of the device.
EUROLABhas the accreditation and experience to efficiently and cost-effectively perform Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) Testing up to 6GHz for the US, Canada and Europe.
EUROLAB The SAR facility is fully equipped with the Schmid & Partner Engineering AG (SPEAG™) DASY professional system, which uses an RX 90 robotic arm for comprehensive access capabilities. In addition, our DASY system features multiple twin SAM phantoms and planar phantoms, enabling rapid testing of turnaround times. DASY can evaluate SAR products against all global SAR standards for both head- and body-worn devices.
EUROLABIt tests a range of products such as Cellular/PCS GSM/DCS CDMA/GMSK/TDMA/AMPS phones, PDAs, Laptops, face-to-face devices, W-LAN (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and so on.
Along with SAR testing, EUROLAB also performs Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) evaluations for fixed and/or mobile applications. These evaluations are performed on radiating structures intended for use at distances greater than 20 cm from the end user. Typical devices we test are vehicle-mounted antennas operating in the UHF and VHF bands.
