IEC 60255-21-2 Electrical Relays - Part 21: Vibration, Shock, Impact and Seismic Tests on Measuring Relays and Protection Equipment - Part Two: Shock and Impact Tests

IEC 60255-21-2 Electrical Relays - Part 21: Vibration, Shock, Impact and Seismic Tests on Measuring Relays and Protection Equipment - Part Two: Shock and Impact Tests

The IEC 60255-21-2 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) describes the vibration, shock, impact and seismic requirements applicable to protection equipment. Two types of tests are included in this standard:

IEC 60255-21-2 Electrical Relays - Part 21: Vibration, Shock, Impact and Seismic Tests on Measuring Relays and Protection Equipment - Part Two: Shock and Impact Tests

  • Shock test (on energized and unenergized sample)
  • Impact test (on non-energized sample)

These requirements apply only to measuring relays and protection equipment in new condition.

The standard in question is mainly based on IEC 68-2-27 and 68-2-29 standards.

In general, the IEC 60255 standard contains test specifications for vibrations, shocks, jolts and earthquake resistance, which are applied to measuring relays and protection devices (with or without contacts).

In general, the IEC 60255 series of standards contains common rules and requirements applicable to measuring relays and protection equipment, including any combination of devices, to create schemes for power system protection, such as control, monitoring and process interface equipment, to achieve uniformity of requirements and tests.

Especially moving parts using vibration isolators become risky during various vibrations. Therefore, seismic limitation must be done for this equipment. Major equipment requiring seismic containment include transformers, generators, UPSs (uninterruptible power supplies), battery racks, and upright panels and cabinets.

Today, in buildings equipped with the latest technology, many mechanical and electrical equipment provide comfort to people. However, in the motors and rotating parts of these mechanical and electrical equipment, vibrations occur at different operating cycles and at different rates. This adversely affects the life of the devices. For this reason, measuring relays and protection equipment must be protected from vibration, shock, impact and seismic movements.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, our organization, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, has been working on vibration, shock, impact and seismic effects on measurement relays and protection equipment within the scope of IEC 60255-21-2 standard. It also provides shock and impact testing services between tests.
