Determination of Total Active Substance

Determination of Total Active Substance

The term active substance or active ingredient refers to a chemical substance that has a therapeutic effect. The active ingredient usually represents a small proportion compared to the excipients. Although medicines containing active ingredients extracted from plants are still found, most modern pharmaceutical products contain active substances whose molecules are well known chemically.

Determination of Total Active Substance

An active ingredient is a biologically active ingredient in the ingredient of a pharmaceutical drug or pesticide (known as API for short). Some drug products may contain more than one active ingredient.

On the other hand, substances considered as total active substances have surface cleaning properties. This feature has led to the widespread use of many cleaning materials and detergents today. Total active ingredients are also frequently used in the cosmetic industry.

A total active ingredient analysis is needed to prove product safety. Three different methods are generally preferred in these tests:

  • Determination of the amount of sodium chloride as a percentage
  • Determination of the amount of solute in alcohol
  • Determination of sulfated and non-sulfated organic substances

Tests applied by all three methods are carried out in advanced laboratories in accordance with certain standards.

In the tests and analyzes carried out in our organization, which has a wide range of technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and applies the most modern methods, national and international standards and legal regulations in force are complied with. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are also total active substance determination services.
