Although medicines containing active ingredients extracted from plants are still found, most modern pharmaceutical products contain active substances whose molecules are well known chemically.
An active ingredient is a biologically active ingredient in the ingredient of a pharmaceutical drug or pesticide (known as API for short). Some drug products may contain more than one active ingredient.
