ISO 19378 (TS 13425) Lubricants, Industrial Lubricants and Related Products (L Class) - Machine Tool Lubricants - Categories and Features

In the ISO 19378 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), machine tool manufacturers and users are presented with criteria to choose from among various lubricant categories, and specifications for these lubricants are explained.

ISO 19378 (TS 13425) Lubricants, Industrial Lubricants and Related Products (L Class) - Machine Tool Lubricants - Categories and Features

This standard facilitates the implementation of the ISO 5169 standard for the presentation of lubrication instructions for machine tools. However, this standard does not cover biodegradable bio bench oils. The ISO 5169 standard has been prepared to guide both manufacturers and machine tool users about the information that must be provided and followed regarding lubrication instructions.

For the purposes of this standard, lubrication point refers to the point at which lubricant is supplied to lubricate a bearing surface. Point of departure refers to any point in a lubrication system where, in general, external action must be taken to ensure the correct operation of the system.

Industrial lubricants are oils, fluids, greases, and other compounds that reduce friction, adhesion, wear, or exclude moisture. Their primary function is to replace solid surfaces with a liquid film. Otherwise, it is used to change surface properties, regulate temperature or remove residues. The ideal lubricant minimizes solid-to-solid contact and reduces any friction that would otherwise impede movement and cause wear.

Lubricating oils are divided into four types with respect to industrial oils and products: oil, grease, penetrating lubricants and dry lubricants. In general, the most common application of a lubricant is to reduce the interaction between two surfaces. The two most common lubricants encountered on a daily basis are oil and grease, but a plant still uses dry and penetrating lubricants. It is very important to understand when to use or not to use these various types of lubricants.

Our organization provides lubricants, industrial oils and related products (L class), within the scope of ISO 19378 (TS 13425) standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors. It also provides testing services for machine tool lubricants.
