Evaluation of Antibacterial Activity and Efficacy

Evaluation of Antibacterial Activity and Efficacy

Antibacterial activity or antibacterial activity tests are tests to determine the presence and amount of bacteria, usually in places where there is widespread bacterial growth. Detection of this formation in suitable environments for the proliferation of bacteria is important in terms of determining the precautions to be taken. According to the results of the antibacterial activity evaluation, it is possible to prevent the growth of bacteria on the surface of the products. Bacteria are organisms that reproduce very quickly. Their numbers increase exponentially if the environment has favorable temperature and humidity conditions. This causes people to get sick.

Evaluation of Antibacterial Activity and Efficacy

Bacteria generally thrive in temperatures between 25 and 45 degrees Celsius. Outside these ranges, bacteria do not survive for very long. The way to prevent bacterial growth is to coat surfaces with antibacterial materials. This process minimizes bacterial formation and reproduction.

In the evaluation of antibacterial activity, the following standards are generally followed:

  • TS ISO 22196 Measurement of antibacterial activity on plastics and other non-porous surfaces
  • TS EN ISO 20743 Textile - Determination of antibacterial activity in antibacterial finish fabrics

Indeed, many in vitro test methods have been developed to determine the antimicrobial activities and efficacy of materials. However, in order to get accurate results, the test method should be selected in accordance with the purpose of the tests and the characteristics of the materials.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. Among the numerous tests performed in this context, there are also services for the evaluation of antibacterial activity and effectiveness.
