Chemical Tests of Biocidal Products

Chemical Tests of Biocidal Products

The Biocidal Products Directive 528/2012/EU, published in the European Union countries, regulates the principles of placing on the market and using biocidal products used to protect people, animals, materials or goods against harmful organisms with the effect of active substances in biocidal products. All biocidal products to be offered to consumers require authorization. The active ingredients in these biocidal products must be pre-approved.

Chemical Tests of Biocidal Products

A biocidal product is a chemical compound containing one or more active substances. This chemical compound is used to neutralize the growth and damage of harmful organisms. It exerts a controlling effect on any harmful organism by a means other than just physical or mechanical action. Based on this definition, a biocidal product can be considered as:

  • A product containing one or more active ingredients
  • A product intended for use against harmful organisms

An active substance is defined as a substance or microorganism containing a virus or fungus that has a general or specific effect on or against harmful organisms.

Disinfectants and certain preservatives are biocidal products. Most of the active substances used in these products are still under review under the EU review program for biocidal active substances. Therefore, products containing not yet approved active substances are regulated by national rules.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are also chemical testing services of biocidal products.
