There are 22 biocidal product types in the biocidal products directive in force in the European Union countries. Among them, product type 1 and product type 19 are defined as:
The product types included in the directive have been determined in order to enable an appropriate assessment of the exposure and risk to health and the environment as a result of the use of a biocidal product.
Products that fall under product type 1 are biocidal products used for human hygiene purposes, applied on human skin or scalp or in contact, mainly to disinfect the skin or scalp.
Products falling under product type 19 to control harmful organisms including invertebrates such as fleas, vertebrates such as birds, fish, rodents, by repelling or attracting harmful organisms, including those used directly on the skin for human or veterinary hygiene, or indirectly in the human or animal environment used biocidal products.
All biocidal products require a permit before being placed on the market and the active ingredients in this biocidal product must be pre-approved.
