Evaluation of Fungicide Activity

Evaluation of Fungicide Activity

Fungicide means that it kills fungi. Tests of fungicidal effectiveness of disinfectants are carried out in stages:

Evaluation of Fungicide Activity

  • Yeasticidal activity is the state of activity against yeast-like fungi
  • Fungicide activity is the state of activity against all fungi and their spores.

Standards referenced to prove fungicidal, fungicidal and spore-killing efficacy require in vitro testing. One of them is the EN 13624 standard, which is a European standard. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute with the following title: TS EN 13624 Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics - Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of the fungicidal effectiveness of chemical disinfectants used in devices used in the medical field - Test method and requirements (step 2, step 1). In fact, other standards are used in fungicidal activity tests applied according to the type of disinfectants.

Test organisms used in fungicidal activity tests include spores of candida albicans and aspergillus niger (aspergillus brasiliensis).

Biocidal products are chemicals that repel, neutralize, destroy, or restrict the movement of harmful organisms. Therefore, disinfectants used as biocides must exhibit antimicrobial properties. This requires them to demonstrate both bactericidal and fungicidal activity. A product lacking these properties cannot be effective as a disinfectant.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are services for the evaluation of fungicidal activity.
