Virucidal Activity Tests

Virucidal Activity Tests

In simple terms, virucidal activity refers to the activity of interacting with and physically disrupting viral particles. More broadly, it includes the activity of inhibiting viral transmission from functional development of viral particles without visible morphological changes. Viral transmission is measured in a variety of ways in the laboratory setting.

Virucidal Activity Tests

Viruses are small intracellular parasites that hijack the host cell system to copy their own genetic makeup. In the first phase of the viral life cycle, infectious viral particles bind to certain host proteins on the surface of target cells and begin to reproduce.

An active substance that is effective against viruses of all types is called virucidal. This activity is called virucidal activity. Such a disinfectant acts non-specifically on a virus so that if the disinfectant is used correctly, the virus will not be contagious. In this respect, virucidal disinfectants play an important role in preventing contamination.

Several test methods are offered in accordance with developed European standards for determining virucidal activity. These test methods differ in the specific test organisms representing a group of microorganisms. At the European level, virucidal efficacy is verified by the EN 14476 standard. The effectiveness of the disinfectant in question is demonstrated in the fields of hand disinfection, surface disinfection, instrument disinfection, and chemotherapeutic disinfection.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. Among the numerous tests performed in this context, there are virucidal activity testing services.
