EN 62625 Electronic Railway Equipment - On-Board Driving Data Recording System

EN 62625 Electronic Railway Equipment - On-Board Driving Data Recording System

The European standard “EN 62625 Electronic railway equipment - On-board driving data recording system” consists of a number of parts published under the same title:

EN 62625 Electronic Railway Equipment - On-Board Driving Data Recording System

  • The standard “EN 62625-1 Part 1: System specification” describes the specification of an on-board driving data recording system for the purpose of recording data on the operation of the train. The data refers to both the driver’s behaviour and the behaviour of on-board systems to support systematic safety monitoring as a means of preventing accidents and incidents. The data is recorded in a manner suitable for determining the cause and, if possible, the effect, so that the data is suitable for:
    • For investigative use in case of accidents and incidents
    • To monitor the appropriate actions of drivers.

This standard specifies the requirements for a universal recording system applicable to all types of rail vehicles. The requirements and responsibilities for the management and storage of data to ensure its integrity after removal from the recording device are outside the scope of this standard. The implementation of this standard is the responsibility of the transport authority and the safety regulatory authority and the specific legal arrangements where the in-vehicle driving data recording system is deployed.

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:

    • A rolling stock is a single vehicle or group of vehicles that are not separated during normal operation. It is a series of railway vehicles that form a complete train.
    • Incidents are any events, other than accidents or serious accidents, associated with the operation of trains and which may affect the safety of the operation.
    • Monitoring data refers to data related to monitoring driver competence.
    • Non-volatile storage media are memory and associated interface circuitry that store data for investigative use in the event of accidents and incidents. Non-volatile storage media can be protected.
    • Resolution is the smallest change in a measured or stored quantity that causes a perceptible change in the display.
    • Train safety functions refer to the technical barrier to prevent the danger of an accident occurring during train operation.
    • The in-vehicle driving data recording system unit is the physical unit that implements the in-vehicle driving data recording system. This unit consists of one or more can be applied from the in-vehicle driving data recording system unit.
  • “EN 62625-2 Part 2: The standard “Conformity testing” describes standard test methods to verify the conformity of an in-vehicle driving data recording system application with the requirements specified in the IEC 62625-1 standard. It also covers the conformity test criteria for a designed and manufactured in-vehicle driving data recording system. This standard includes the list of requirements specified in the IEC 62625-1 standard and the relevant acceptance conditions for the in-vehicle driving data recording system during the design review, type test and routine test stages. For the train level design review and train level test stages, this section provides guidelines for conformity test methods to be applied to the in-vehicle driving data recording system installed in the train.
  • This standard does not cover conformity assessment schemes, which are the responsibility of the conformity assessment committee. Consequently, this part does not include elements related to aspects of conformity assessment other than the design review and test provisions for products, processes or services implementing the requirements specified in IEC 62625-1. This standard does not delete, modify or interpret the general requirements for conformity assessment procedures and vocabulary detailed in ISO/IEC 17000.

    • “EN 62625-3 Part 3: The “audio and video recording” standard is still in the design phase.

In general, the EN 62625 standard applies to all rail vehicles, regardless of the operating mode (e.g. manual or automatic operation). Although this standard primarily concerns the requirements for audiovisual recording in rail vehicle operating compartments, it also takes into account other data recording locations, such as passenger compartments or external vehicle locations. The provisions of this standard may also apply to audiovisual recording systems outside the operating compartment.

Our organization, which has been trying to support businesses from every sector with its testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies carried out in a wide range for years, has a strong staff that closely follows the developments in the world in the field of science and technology and constantly improves itself. In this context, testing services in accordance with the "EN 62625 Electronic railway equipment - On-board driving data recording system" standard are also provided to businesses.
