The genetically modified MON87705 soybean variety is a herbicide-tolerant soybean variety. In our country, the Biosafety Board has approved the MON87705 soybean variety for use as animal feed. The Biosafety Board first evaluated the potential risks of importing this soybean variety for use as animal feed. Before applying biotechnological methods to the MON87705 soybean variety, the structure of the transferred genes, the DNA sequence, and the gene transfer method were examined in detail. According to the results of detailed laboratory analyses, no significant difference was observed between the MON87705 soybean variety and traditional soybean varieties. In these studies, the allergic and toxic effects of the new soybean variety, its morphological and agronomic characteristics, the stability of genetic modification, its interaction with target and non-target organisms, and its potential interaction with the environment were evaluated. At the same time, animal feeding studies with the genetically modified MON87705 soybean variety were also observed, and the possible risks arising from its use as animal feed were assessed.
In the light of the data obtained, it has been decided that the possible effects of using MON87705 soybean species for feed purposes will not be higher than the non-genetically modified species in terms of human, animal and environmental health.
