The genetically modified MON87708 soybean strain designed by Monsanto is a herbicide-tolerant soybean strain. MON87708 soybean species is among the genetically modified products approved for feed use by the Biosafety Board in our country. The Biosafety Board first assessed the potential risks of importing this soybean for use as feed. In this evaluation, the structure of the genes transferred to this genetically modified soybean species, DNA sequence, extra DNA sequences and gene transfer method were examined in detail.
The results of detailed laboratory analyzes performed on the basis did not show any difference between soybean strain MON87708 and conventional soybean types. In these analyzes, allergic and toxic effects analysis, morphological and agronomic characteristics, stability of genetic modification, interaction with target and non-target organisms and interaction potential with environmental conditions of MON 87708 soybean strain were evaluated. In addition, animal feeding studies with genetically modified MON87708 soybean strain were also observed and the possible risks that may arise as a result of its use as feed were taken into account.
The data obtained In the light of this, it was decided that the possible effects of using MON87708 soybean species for feed purposes in terms of human, animal and environmental health would not be higher than non-genetically modified species.
In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, MON87708 soybean type determination and quantity analysis services are also available.
