T25 corn is a genetically modified corn variety tolerant to the glufosinate ammonium herbicide, primarily used for feed purposes. The total area planted with herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant genetically modified plants is expanding globally. T25 corn, cultivated in over 30 countries, is used for feed and food consumption in over 60 countries. Nearly half of all genetically modified plants are produced in the United States.
Official investigations revealed that the T25 maize variety is similar to non-genetically modified maize varieties in terms of nutritional content, chemical composition, and animal testing. However, the Scientific Committee concluded that the studies were insufficient to support the use of genetically modified T25 maize in animal feed. On the other hand, considering the protein properties, it was concluded that this variety is similar to non-genetically modified maize in terms of toxicity and allergenicity. Consequently, the Scientific Committee decided that the import and use of T25 maize as animal feed would not be appropriate.
