ATA SPEC 2500 Aircraft Transfer Records

ATA SPEC 2500 Aircraft Transfer Records

The ATA SPEC 2500 standard, developed by the Air Transport Association (ATA) , establishes an industry standard for the exchange of aircraft registration records in standardized electronic formats. It is intended for use by operators buying or selling aircraft, by lessors and lessees during lease returns, or by aircraft or engine manufacturers upon initial delivery. This standard includes a support infrastructure for collecting data on various documents and data relating to aircraft, engines, or components, as well as definitions and business rules, for the following datasets:

  • AD status
  • Repair damage status
  • Last maintenance status
  • Installed component status
  • Service bulletin, change, STC status
  • Aircraft, engine, major component condition

Aiming to reduce cost, complexity and risk issues with the existing largely paper-based process, the ATA SPEC 2500 standard is designed to standardize the exchange of aircraft records between interested parties or systems worldwide. The standard is designed to address any transferable aircraft record, including data-heavy datasets such as AD status reports and key records such as a certificate.

Previously, no standard existed for record formatting. This often made the output of one system incompatible with the input format of another. To solve this, the ATA SPEC 2500 standard uses extensible markup language (XML), a text-based scripting language known for its simplicity and usability, especially when coding on the Internet. This format of encoding ensures uniformity for data programs of both parties and allows the output and input of information to be recorded using a certain naming convention and format.

The ATA SPEC 2500 standard adopts the use of an XML file to host many separate datasets, both full and partial, XML and non-XML. In this way, it allows the identification of key entities along with the sending company and operator information, ensuring that the top-level information remains unchanged.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer testing services for aircraft transfer records under the ATA SPEC 2500 standard, utilizing a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
