BSS 7324 Aircraft Material Fire Test - Electrical Wire and Cable Test Procedure

BSS 7324 Aircraft Material Fire Test - Electrical Wire and Cable Test Procedure

BSS 7324, a Boeing Safety Standard, is based on 14 CFR (FAR) Part 25 Annex F6, which is regulated by the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and describes the flammability test requirements applicable to aircraft materials. This test method is most commonly used to demonstrate that aircraft materials comply with the 14 CFR 25.856 standard.

BSS 7324 Aircraft Material Fire Test - Electrical Wire and Cable Test Procedure

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires the use of different fire testing methods to ensure that aircraft materials meet certain performance criteria when exposed to heat or flame, in order to provide prescribed fire safety levels in civil aircraft. In general, the test criteria presented relate to the fire performance of a particular material when exposed to a fire environment.

14 CFR (FAR) Part 25 Annex F6 (BSS 7230 F6) defines the 60 degree wire flammability test method for determining the flammability properties of aircraft materials. According to this standard, the flexural strength must be above 1000 cycles.

This standard also includes the requirements of the following military standards:

  • MIL-W-22759E Military specification: Items 32-35 and 41-46 of the wire, electrical, fluoropolymer insulated, copper or copper alloy standard. This standard covers fluoropolymer insulated single-conductor electrical wires made of tin-plated, silver-plated or nickel-plated copper or copper alloy conductors.
  • MIL-C-27500G Military specification: Cable, power, electrical and cable special-purpose, electrically shielded and unshielded, general specifications. This standard covers special purpose and power electrical cable requirements.

According to the test procedure described in the BSS 7324 standard, electrical wires and cables must be insulated with radiation cross-linked polymer, have a continuous temperature rating of 65-200 degrees, and have excellent shearing and shear properties to ensure easy use of the cable.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides electrical wire and cable testing services in case of burning of Boeing aircraft material, within the scope of BSS 7324 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
