SAE ARP 4048 Balancing Machines - Horizontal, Biplane, Rigid Bearing Type Description and Evaluation for Gas Turbine Rotors

Developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the purpose of the SAE ARP 4048 standard is to define the technical specifications of horizontal rotary-type, rigid-bearing balancing machines for measuring the amount and angle of balance corrections required in one or more transverse planes to balance gas turbine rotors.

SAE ARP 4048 Balancing Machines - Horizontal, Biplane, Rigid Bearing Type Description and Evaluation for Gas Turbine Rotors

In balancing machines, specially designed brackets transmit the mechanical force with high rigidity. The durable and reliable sensor has high sensitivity. Permanent calibration provides high accuracy allowing for a large amount of initial imbalance. It has an advanced electrical measurement system and an easy human-machine interface. Briefly, balancing machine is a special equipment used to control all kinds of drive shaft balance.

Test rotors are used to verify the continuous accuracy of a balancing machine and also to calibrate a rigid bearing machine. Having a suitable rotor saves similar equipment rental costs and allows the balancing machine user to verify machine performance as often as required by production, machine usage and quality programs. Standard rotors allow a known unbalance to be applied in two separate planes at various angles. Multiple weight sizes are provided to accommodate various machine sizes and speed ranges. SAE rotors are manufactured according to the SAE ARP 4162 standard and their performance is evaluated according to the SAE ARP 4048, SAE ARP 4050 and SAE ARP 5323 standards. Evaluation against SAE standards is mandatory in aerospace applications in general.

Engines for the aviation industry have the highest requirements for reliability. Balancing machines and balancing devices meet these requirements to reliably balance rotors from aircraft engines and components. In aircraft engines, rotors undergo strictly defined tests with multiple steps during manufacture and overhaul to achieve minimum vibration and high efficiency.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer testing services under the SAE ARP 4048 standard for balancing machines and gas turbine rotors, focusing on horizontal, two-plane, and rigid bearing type identification and evaluation, utilizing a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
