MIL-STD-901D, Military Feature: Shock Tests (High Impact) Ship Machinery, Equipment and Systems, Requirements
The MIL-STD-901D standard, a United States military defense standard, describes the shock test requirements for machinery, equipment, systems and structures on board, excluding submarine pressure hull passages, and defines shock tests (high impact). The purpose of these requirements is to verify the ability of onboard facilities to withstand shock loadings that would be incurred during combat service due to the effects of nuclear or conventional weapons.

The test methods in this standard are performed according to one of the following test categories:
- Lightness. This test method is a test method performed on a light shock machine. Test machine weight should be less than 270 kg.
- medium weight. This test method is a test method performed on a medium-weight shock machine. Test machine weight should be less than 3.550 kg.
- High weight. This test method is a test method performed on a standard or large floating shock platform.
The items to be tested are classified according to one of the following grades:
- Grade A. These are essential for the ship's safety and sustained combat capability.
- Grade B. These are elements whose operation is not essential to the safety and combat capability of the ship, but which presents a hazard to personnel or the ship as a whole as a result of exposure to shock.
Elements to be tested are grouped into one of the following classes:
- Class I. This equipment is required to meet these shock requirements without the use of flexible assemblies installed between the equipment and the ship's structure or foundation.
- Class II. This equipment is required to meet these shock requirements using flexible assemblies installed between the equipment and the ship's structure or foundation.
- Class III. Unless otherwise specified, this equipment has application on board both where flexible assemblies are used and where it is not used and therefore meets other class requirements. equipment that must be met.
