Determination of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) (SM 5210 B Method)

Determination of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) (SM 5210 B Method)

Within the scope of the National Environmental Methods Index (NEMI), the SM 5210 B method, which includes a test method for the determination of biological oxygen demand (BOD), has been developed.is not. The biological oxygen demand demand test is performed to determine the relative oxygen requirements of wastewater and polluted water. The widest application area is to measure waste loads to treatment plants and to evaluate the efficiency of a plant in meeting the biological oxygen demand.

Determination of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) (SM 5210 B Method)

The biological oxygen demand test measures the molecular oxygen used during a given incubation period to:

  • To biochemically degrade organic material
  • For oxidizing inorganic material (e.g. sulfides and ferrous iron)
  • To oxidize reduced nitrogen forms (nitrogen requirement)

The processes involved provide an estimation of biological oxygen demand between pH values of 6-8.

There are a number of factors that affect the accuracy and precision of biological oxygen demand measurements. For example, soluble and particulate organics, settleable and floating solids, oxidation or non-mixing of reduced iron and sulfur compounds. Today there is no effective adjustment or correction to compensate for these factors.

In the tests and analyzes carried out in our organization, which has a wide range of technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and applies the most modern methods, national and international standards and legal regulations in force are complied with. Biological oxygen demand (BOD) determination (SM 5210 B method) services are among the numerous tests performed in this context.
