But if it spreads to other parts of the body, it can cause life-threatening infections. Hospital settings or people with a health condition are at higher risk of developing an infection. There are actually close to 20 species of enterococcus, but only two are commonly found in humans: enterococcus faecalis and enterococcus faecium.

Enterococcus faecalis is responsible for about 80 percent of cases of infection in humans. These bacteria cause infection when they enter wounds, blood or urine. Patients who have a weakened immune system due to illness or surgery, undergo cancer treatment, are on dialysis, or have had an organ transplant, have a low immune system and are particularly at risk. Enterococcus faecalis is believed to be one of the three main causes of hospital-acquired infections.

Symptoms of Enterococcus faecalis infection, depending on the location of the infection, include: fatigue, painful urination, stomach cramps, and vomiting.

Enterococcus faecalis, meanwhile, has both innate and acquired immunity to antibiotic therapy. In other words, it is one of the most resistant bacteria to antibiotics.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. Enterococcus enumeration services are among the numerous tests performed in this context.
