Legionella is a type of bacteria that can be found in various water sources, drinking and utility water, pool water, closed circuit water systems, and causes diseases such as legionnaires and pontiac.

Legionnaires' disease is a dangerous disease that can cause pneumonia. Pontiac is a disease of the breathing.
Legionella bacteria are usually transmitted to humans by air. Legionella bacteria are encountered in areas such as hotels, business centers, hospitals, schools, markets, production areas and in the ventilation systems of these areas. Apart from these, it is possible to find them in pools, bathrooms and showers.
Legionella species pass into water distribution systems at low rates due to their low presence in natural water environments. However, due to the presence of suitable breeding environments such as areas where water is stagnant in water distribution systems and their high resistance to chlorine, they continue to maintain their vitality and reproduce. They multiply rapidly in man-made systems that provide physical protection and nutrients such as cooling towers, water distribution systems, water tanks, and suitable water temperatures.
In order to analyze Legionella bacteria, water and swab samples are taken from cooling towers, taps, shower heads, ventilation systems and analyzed in the laboratory. Necessary microbiological work is carried out in the laboratory authorized for analysis. Results are evaluated according to national and international methods.
