Determination of Ochratoxin A

Mycotoxin is a term used for the metabolites of some fungus species that threaten human and animal health, found in many processed or unprocessed foods. More than 400 types of mycotoxins are known to exist today.

Determination of Ochratoxin A

After mycotoxins are produced by fungi, they have the resistance to survive even if the fungi are damaged due to external factors.

Ochratoxin A (OTA); It is a mycotoxin that can be found in foodstuffs such as cereals and grain products, legumes, coffee beans, nuts, cocoa, spices. Ochratoxin A was first discovered in wine and later detected in different amounts in various foods.

Ochratoxin A is produced by many species of Aspergillus and Penicillium fungi. These mushrooms are very common and pose a great risk through foodstuffs and feed.

It shows nephrotoxic, immunosuppressive, teratogenic, genotoxic and carcinogenic properties. Animal experiments have shown that the target organ of Ochratoxin A is the kidney, and it has been reported to be responsible for various kidney diseases affecting humans as well as animals.

Ochratoxin A in feeds and Ochratoxin A in milk and edible meat of animals were found. Therefore, Ochratoxin A analysis should be performed on animal products and especially on grain products.

Ochratoxin A detection can be done with HPLC or LC-MS / MS devices.

In our internationally accredited laboratories, Ochratoxin A detection is analyzed in cereal and cereal products, dried fruits and vegetables, baby and child supplements, coffee and coffee products, cocoa and cocoa products, chocolate, wine, spice and spice mixtures.
