In Vitro Photosensitive Test

In Vitro Photosensitive Test

Photosensitivity is an increased skin sensitivity or an unusual reaction when the skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays from sunlight or tanning beds. Regardless of skin type, if photosensitivity is involved, there is a risk of permanent skin damage and skin cancer from even limited exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Not everyone develops photosensitivity. However, if there is a high risk, the best option is to avoid it to prevent a sun-sensitive reaction from occurring.

prescription or over-the-counter medications, a medical condition or genetic disorder, or skin may become photosensitive as a result of using certain skin care products. There are essentially two different types of photosensitivity reactions: photoallergic and phototoxic.

A photoallergic reaction is much less common and occurs when ultraviolet rays interact with ingredients in medications or other products that are applied directly to the skin. The body's immune system perceives changes caused by sun exposure as a foreign threat. The body produces antibodies and attacks, causing the reaction. A photoallergic reaction can cause redness, blisters, red bumps, and even oozing lesions.

The phototoxic reaction is the most common form of reaction and usually occurs when an ingested or topically applied drug is activated by exposure to ultraviolet light. This condition can also be triggered by certain ingredients in skin care products. A phototoxic reaction causes damage to the skin that looks and feels like a sunburn or rash.

In vitro photosensitivity is generally seen for the following reasons:

  • Medications: Antibiotics and some common medications can make a person much more sensitive to sunlight than they normally would.
  • Diseases and medical conditions: Certain medical conditions and conditions can make a person hypersensitive to ultraviolet rays.
  • Skin care products: Certain ingredients in products used to make the skin look better sometimes lift the outermost layer of the skin. This may cause photosensitivity.

Our organization also provides in vitro photosensitivity testing services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
