Hydrocarbon Analysis

Hydrocarbon analysis is an analysis technique based on gas chromatography to determine individual hydrocarbons and composition of hydrocarbons by group type in spark emission fuels. These analyzes help optimize production, meet regulatory requirements and increase profitability in oil refining and production facilities.

Hydrocarbon Analysis

Hydrocarbon analysis has the ability to classify individual hydrocarbons according to group types as paraffins, isoparaffins, olefins, naphthenes, aromatics and oxygenates. This technique is therefore the preferred technique today for characterizing hydrocarbon streams with their individual components. This technique is based on the separation of individual hydrocarbon components using ultra-high resolution capillary gas chromatography and reference component databases based on retention time.

Detailed hydrocarbon analysis is a separation technique used by various laboratories in the petrochemical industry for the analysis and identification of individual components, as well as for bulk hydrocarbon characterization of a given sample.

The ASTM D6730-21 standard published by the American Testing and Materials Organization (ASTM) defines a test method for the determination of individual hydrocarbon components of spark-ignition engine fuels and their oxygenate mixtures with a boiling range of up to 225 degrees. The full title of this standard is: ASTM D6730-21 Standard test method for the determination of individual components in spark ignition engine fuels by 100 meter capillary (front column) high resolution gas chromatography. With this test method, light liquid hydrocarbon mixtures, which are generally encountered in oil refining processes, are analyzed. This test method can be applied to higher and lower concentrations for individual components, however, results need to be validated if the test method is used for components with concentrations outside the specified ranges.

Gas chromatography is one of the most common methods used to evaluate hydrocarbon assets during development, production and distribution. This is achieved through the characterization of aromatic hydrocarbons, cycloalkanes and alkanes.

Measuring the aggregate composition of different compounds and hydrocarbon groups in gasoline is essential for quality control. A number of legal regulations also require this.

Our organization also provides hydrocarbon analysis services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
