The standard “JIS K 6261-4 Vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic rubber - Determination of low temperature properties - Part 4: Low temperature elastic recovery test (TR test)” developed by the Japanese Industrial Standards Organization (JIS) states that vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic rubber samples frozen at low temperature will lose elasticity as the temperature increases after elongation. This standard describes a test method (TR test) to determine the temperature when it is closed and reaches a certain shrinkage rate.

This standard does not apply to thermoplastic rubbers that have a yield point when subjected to an elongation in the range of 5 percent to 20 percent.
Thermoplastic rubber with a yield point affects the TR test, so caution should be exercised in the analysis of test results.
This standard is based on the standard "ISO 2921 Rubber, vulcanized - Determination of low temperature properties - Temperature withdrawal procedure (TR test)" published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and with changes in the technical content this industrial standard was created. A list of changes with explanations is included in the standard annex (Annex JA).
Users of this standard are assumed to be familiar with routine laboratory work. This standard does not attempt to address all safety issues that may arise in connection with its use. Users of this standard must take appropriate precautions for safety and health under their own responsibility. In carrying out the tests specified in this standard, all actions, including handling and disposal, shall comply with legal and regulatory requirements, taking into account the hazards affecting human health of the substances used, substances produced and wastes.
When performing the test, the test piece is stretched to the specified elongation at the standard temperature of the test chamber, frozen at a low temperature, then the tensile force is removed, and after that, when the temperature is increased at a constant rate, the test piece begins to recover its elasticity and shrinkage. This test method measures the temperature at which the sample reaches shrinkage for testing purposes.
The test equipment consists of a test piece rack that holds the test piece under tension, a test piece length measuring device, and a test chamber. An example of the test equipment is shown in the figure given in the standard.
The heat transfer medium is liquid or gaseous at the test temperature and is physically and chemically compatible with the material under test. Something that does not affect it is used. The following heat transfer medium can be used up to the temperatures specified.
The test piece length measuring device shall read the length of the test piece with an accuracy of plus/minus 0,25 mm during the test. However, when a test piece with a parallel piece length of 50 mm is used, the accuracy of the reading device shall be better than plus/minus 0,125 mm.
The temperature measuring device must be able to measure with an accuracy of plus/minus 0,5 degrees over the entire test temperature range. The temperature sensor must be placed close to the sample.
The temperature controller should be able to maintain the temperature medium with an accuracy of plus/minus 1 degree. In the case of continuous heating, the heating rate should be 1 degree per minute, and the temperature rise error for 10 minutes should be 10 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees.
The standard temperature of the test chamber should be according to the standard temperature of the test chamber defined in the JIS K 6250 standard.
Among the numerous testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies that our organization has provided for businesses in various sectors, it also provides testing services defined in the standard “JIS K 6261-4 Vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic rubber - Determination of low temperature properties - Part 4: Low temperature elastic recovery test (TR test)” with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
