The NIOSH 7300 standard developed by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) defines a method for the analysis of indoor air samples collected in cellulose ester membrane filters. According to this standard, first the filter sample is digested and then the metal concentrations in the air are determined by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption (GFAA) or inductively coupled argon plasma (ICAP) spectroscopy methods.

Detection limits, sensitivity, and optimum ranges for metal analysis in air vary depending on the filter material, the volume of air sampled, and the models of GFAA or ICAP instruments used. These are standard operating procedures that can be changed as needed depending on site conditions, equipment limitations, or procedure-imposed limitations. In all cases, the final procedures used are documented and reported.
Indoor air samples are collected in cellulose ester membrane filters located in cassette filter holders, according to the NIOSH 7300 standard. The filter from the cassette holder is transferred to a clean 50 milliliter beaker and digested in nitric acid. After digestion is complete, the sample is transferred to a 25 milliliter measuring flask and diluted by volume with diluting acid. All samples should have been collected according to this standard and, after collection, should be securely packaged and stored for shipment.
The toxicity or carcinogenicity of each reagent used in the described analysis method has not been definitively defined. However, every chemical compound should be treated as a potential health hazard. Laboratories are responsible for taking the safety precautions for the safe use of the chemicals specified in this method. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) practices should be followed when working with potentially hazardous materials.
Technological advancements significantly impact atmospheric air, especially in the workplace. Any substance released into the air through various activities causes air pollution and harms human health. Air pollutants typically include particulate matter (smoke, dust, fumes, and aerosols), gases (sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and hydrocarbons), radioactive materials, and heavy metals.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides airborne metals analysis services within the scope of NIOSH 7300 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
