Classification of Hazardous Substances

Classification of Hazardous Substances

Everyone who works with chemicals and mixtures must first identify and classify them according to their potential hazards to humans and the environment. We offer suitable CLP compliant services from a single source.

Classification of Hazardous Substances

On the basis of laboratory results, substances and mixtures are divided into hazard classes that reflect a realistic assessment of the hazard. This GHS (Globally Harmonized System) classification is made in the EU according to the European CLP regulation ("Regulation on Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures", 1272/2008 / EG).

Substances and mixtures classified as hazardous under CLP must be notified to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) one month after they are first placed on the market.

Thanks to many years of experience and extensive knowledge in the field of process and chemical safety, we are the right partner for you. We advise on questions regarding applicable regulations and obligations and support you according to the latest requirements in the CLP-based classification of your dangerous goods.

CLP classification is generally based on available physico-chemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological data. We offer the following services related to the classification of dangerous substances:

  • CLP classification of substances and mixtures
  • Creating safety data sheets with GHS classification according to national requirements
  • Support with internal documents (eg instructions for use, labels, hazardous substance records)
  • Classification according to ADR, IMDG, IATA, EWC and water conservation regulations
  • Specialist evaluations of hazardous materials and dangerous goods labeling
  • Marketability certificates
  • Laboratory analysis
  • Notification of dangerous goods classification to ECHA
  • Poison Center Notice according to CLP Annex VIII
  • Staff education

The GHS (Global Harmonized System) and CLP regulation are regularly subjected to ATP (Technical Progress Adaptation). In version 8 of ATP, the classification guidelines have also been changed. Hazardous mixtures such as oxidizing liquids and substances with corrosive and irritating effects on eyes and skin are affected by the new GHS classification. Therefore, manufacturers, formulators or importers of chemical substances and mixtures must always be up to date on the regulations applicable to CLP.
