Determination of Ammonium (TS 7159)

Determination of Ammonium (TS 7159)

A manual spectrophotometric method is presented for the determination of ammonium in water in the standard "TS 7159 Analysis methods of water - Ammonium determination - Part 1: Manual spectrophotometric method" published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE). This standard is based on the ISO 7150-1 standard published by the International Standards Organization (ISO) (ISO 7150-1 Water quality - Ammonium determination - Part 1: Manual spectrometric method).

Determination of Ammonium (TS 7159)

This test method is applicable to drinking water and most raw and wastewater analysis. Excessively colored or salty waters must be distilled prior to application. Ammonium nitrogen concentrations of up to 40 mg/l can be determined using a maximum of 1 ml of test sample. Much higher concentrations can be determined by taking smaller test samples.

Essentially, the ISO 7150 standard consists of two parts:

  • Part 1: Manual spectrometric method
  • Part 2: An automated spectrometric method

Ammonium is useful for agriculture and is used as an artificial fertilizer for plants. However, it is considered a harmful substance in drinking and utility water. According to current legal regulations, the maximum limit for ammonium levels in water is 0,5 mg/l.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are also ammonium determination (TS 7159) services.
