Determination of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) (TS 2789)

In the "TS 2789 Water quality - Determination of chemical oxygen demand" standard published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE), a test method for determining the appropriate chemical oxygen demand (COD) of water is explained. This standard is based on the ISO 6060 standard published by the International Standards Organization (ISO) (ISO 6060 Water quality - Determination of chemical oxygen demand).

Determination of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) (TS 2789)

This test method is valid for water with a chloride content between 30 mg/l and 700 mg/l. The chloride content should not exceed 1000 mg/l. If the value exceeds 700 mg/l, the water sample is diluted. For maximum accuracy, a sample value between 300-600 mg/l is preferred.

Under the specified conditions, organic compounds are greatly oxidized. Volatile hydrophobic substances can evaporate and thus escape oxidation. Inorganic compounds that are oxidized under reaction conditions are: bromide and iodide ions, certain sulfur compounds, nitrite ions, and certain metal compounds.

On the other hand, certain compounds react as oxidizing agents under reaction conditions. These conditions should be considered when evaluating test results.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) determination (TS 2789) services are among the numerous tests performed in this context.
